Security and Service Measures Announced for the 2026-2027 Academic Year in Istanbul

According to the statement made by the Istanbul Governorship, nearly 2 million 800 thousand students and 161 thousand 453 teachers will start classes in Istanbul on Monday. In this context, all necessary measures were taken in the city to ensure that the 2026-2027 academic year can be spent in peace and security.

According to the news in AA, school measures will be implemented by the Provincial Police Department at 719 points in its area of ​​responsibility, with 1483 teams and 2 thousand 469 personnel. These measures will continue to be implemented throughout the academic year.

578 TEAM WILL PERFORM FIXED DUTY

While 229 "School Law Enforcement Officers" consisting of Children's Branch Directorate personnel will be assigned to 239 schools, 470 "Safe Education Coordination Officers" will be assigned to 470 schools, 578 teams will be on permanent duty at schools during entry and exit hours.

45 MOBILE SCHOOL TEAM AT WORK

Mobile School Teams, which were established to intervene in security problems that may occur in schools and around schools, will work with 45 teams in 39 districts.

Intensified security practices will continue uninterruptedly throughout the education period with 341 teams consisting of children, public order, traffic, preventive, narcotics branch and district police department personnel at 120 points daily.

The teams will also continue to maintain public order and control practices in places and businesses around the school where students are concentrated.

TRAFFIC INSPECTIONS WILL CONTINUE

Traffic measures will be implemented by the Traffic Inspection, Regional Traffic and District Traffic Bureau teams at 499 points between 14-25 September, with a total of 890 personnel, including 262 teams, 157 motorcycles, 161 pedestrians and 41 tow trucks.

Traffic Branch Directorate teams will also continue their inspections of school buses uninterruptedly throughout the academic year.

Preventive Services Branch Directorate will take precautions to ensure general security and public order with 10 teams at important intersections and squares around the school and 100 motorcycle Yunus teams in front of the school and its surroundings during entry and exit hours between 8-19 September.

GENDARMERIE WILL INCREASE INSPECTION IN THE FIELD

Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command will carry out multi-faceted security, traffic and public order practices in the schools and school surroundings in its area of responsibility, with a total of 114 teams and 335 personnel, on September 14, when the schools will open, and on the following days.

Inspections carried out to prevent the sale of alcohol and open cigarettes to students, especially the fight against drugs/stimulants in school environments and places where students are concentrated, will continue with increasing intensity as the schools open.

Gendarmerie teams will be on duty in front of the school during entrance and exit hours.

Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams will carry out hygiene inspections in school canteens between 10.00-15.00 on the first day of schools.

FIRST DAY SPECIAL TIME ARRANGEMENT

On Monday, the first day of schools, a special time was implemented for the first day, as it was estimated that around 19 thousand shuttle vehicles and thousands of parents who wanted to take their children to school with their own vehicles would be in traffic on the first day.

In order to prevent possible disruptions in traffic due to the determination of bus and school routes on the first day of education, education will be held between 10.00-15.00 in public and private primary, secondary and high schools across the province on September 14.

3,013 garden staff will start working on September 14 to ensure safe entry and exit of students and to contribute to the security and coordination in school gardens.

Garden guards will work in the gardens of all schools, including kindergartens, for security, coordination and cooperation. Training for garden staff will be given by the police.

THERE WILL BE DETECTIVES IN SCHOOLS

All schools in Istanbul will have detectors provided by the Istanbul Governorship this year. When deemed appropriate, necessary searches, inspections and checks will be carried out with detectors in risky areas.

8,500 cleaning personnel assigned within the scope of the Community Benefit Program (TYP) through İŞKUR will start working in schools in Istanbul as of Monday.

The assigned personnel will carry out cleaning services in schools in order to contribute to the education of our students in a healthy and clean environment.
