885 stationery businesses were inspected in Istanbul

Istanbul Trade Provincial Director İsmail Menteşe, in his statement after the inspection he attended at a stationery store in Şişli, said that, as the Ministry of Commerce, they continue inspections uninterruptedly within the scope of the Law on Consumer Protection and the Law on the Regulation of Retail Trade in order to protect the economic interests of the citizens.

Stating that the inspections started on August 5 before the 2026-2027 academic year, Menteşe noted that they carried out these inspections in order to ensure that students continue their education with safe products and to protect the economic interests of parents.

Menteşe said the following about the inspections carried out in this context:

"As of August 5, we inspected 885 businesses selling stationery products in Istanbul. In these 885 businesses, we inspected approximately 106 thousand 901 products both in terms of price tags, unfair prices and product safety. As a result of these inspections, we saw that the prices of approximately 251 products did not match between the aisle and the cash register. We imposed administrative sanctions of 997 thousand 223 liras on these. Again, among these inspections, 24 thousand "We found the prices of 378 products to be high. We prepared an Unfair Price Increase (HFA) report. We are examining their purchase and sale invoices. Our Ministry will make a public announcement on this matter."

"THERE IS AN 85 PERCENT IMPROVEMENT IN TERMS OF COMPLIANCE WITH THE PRICE LABEL"

İsmail Menteşe stated that compliance with the Price Tag Regulation increased as a result of the inspections and said, "We saw that the compliance rate of our businesses with the price tag increased significantly between 2025-2026. There is an 85 percent improvement in terms of compliance with the price tag between last year and this year. This is pleasing for us, too. It is pleasing for our citizens." he said.

Menteşe pointed out that while the rate of mistrust in stationery products was over 50 percent in 2011, the rate of mistrust in stationery products was significantly reduced as a result of the effective market surveillance and control activities carried out by the Ministry of Commerce, the measures taken and the sensitivity of the sector stakeholders regarding compliance with the legislation, and noted that the rate of mistrust in stationery products was reduced to below 1 percent.
