Suspect of bank hostage taking in Izmir was arrested

The first statement at the police station of the attacker who took the gun of the security guard and held 5 bank employees hostage in the Karabağlar district of Izmir was revealed. The suspect, who was learned to have stated that he had no terrorist connection or robbery intention and that he carried out the action to draw attention to victimized and oppressed girls, was arrested.

In the statement, the following statements were made: "On September 9, 2026, around 16.30, a person named C.A. came to a bank branch on İnönü Street in the Karabağlar district of Izmir, took the gun belonging to a private security guard and took 5 employees inside the bank hostage. As a result of the negotiations and the work carried out by the special operations elements, the 5 bank employees taken hostage were safely rescued and the suspicious person was taken into custody. Regarding the incident, our Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office "An investigation was initiated immediately; 2 Deputy Chief Public Prosecutors and 2 Public Prosecutors were assigned to carry out the investigation in an effective and coordinated manner."

The details of the first interrogation of the suspect C.A., who was taken into custody and taken to the police, were revealed. It was learned that C.A., who was determined to be a cook by profession but not actively working, stated in his statement that there was no focus behind which he received instructions, that he planned the action alone and that his purpose was not robbery. On the other hand, it was learned that C.A. stated in his statement that he resorted to this method to draw attention to oppressed, murdered, needy and homeless girls. The suspect, who was noted to be mentally unstable and had previously received psychiatric treatment, was arrested by the court after being processed at the police station.
