7 of 9 suspects were arrested in the Izmir Menderes Municipality bribery and extortion investigation

7 of the 9 suspects who were detained in the second wave of the operation within the scope of the 'bribery' and 'extortion' investigation against Menderes Municipality in Izmir were arrested.

In the investigation carried out under the coordination of the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an investigation was launched against the suspects who were determined to have committed the crimes of 'establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime', 'being a member of an organization established for the purpose of committing a crime', 'bribery', 'extortion', 'forgery of official documents', 'abuse of office' and 'causing zoning pollution'. As part of the investigation, a detention order was issued for 16 suspects, including Mayor İlkay Çiçek. In the simultaneous operation held on August 4, 15 people, including Mayor Çiçek, were detained. Deputy Mayor Rüzgar Sönmez, for whom a detention warrant was issued, was later captured in an operation.

ÇİÇEK WAS ARRESTED

Among the 16 suspects who were referred to the courthouse, Mayor İlkay Çiçek, Deputy Mayor Rüzgar Sönmez, Mesut Taşdemir, Municipality Planning and Urbanization Manager İbrahim Yalça, Municipality Planning and Project Manager Durmuş Parım, Municipality Building Control Manager Ömer Eryılmaz, Deputy Municipality Plan and Project Manager Yaprak Yumurta, Municipal Councilor Emre Pala, Municipality Councilor Ferdi Hepyılmaz and Mustafa Pala were arrested. Municipality Directorate of Zoning and Urbanization Construction Technician Ö.C.K., Municipality Directorate of Zoning and Urbanization Architect A.B.Y., former Municipality Construction Control Manager S.D., former Municipality Construction Control Manager H.Y. with İ.P. and A.P. He was released under judicial control. Lawyer Elifnur Gürcü, who was detained within the scope of the investigation recently, was also arrested. During the investigation, it was determined that Gürcü was placed next to Mayor İlkay Çiçek by the Kuruçaylar criminal organization.

SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY

While the investigation was ongoing, detention orders were issued for 9 suspects as a result of the analyzes and examinations made on the statements taken and MASAK data. Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams, which carried out the second wave operation on September 23, detained 9 suspects. Among the suspects who were referred to the courthouse this morning after their procedures at the gendarmerie: A.U., S.K., Ç.Ç., O.D., A.D.. O.G. and M.K. The suspects named were arrested. M.R.G and E.Ö. He was released on condition of judicial control.
