Fugitive defendant Ömer Deniz Dündar appeared before the judge in the Ankara Train Station attack case

In the case heard at Ankara 4th High Criminal Court, on August 3, 2018, 9 defendants were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, defendant Erman Ekici was sentenced to 18 years in prison, and the files of 16 fugitive defendants were separated. The Supreme Court overturned the verdict against Ekici and decided that he should also be tried for the crimes of 'intentional murder' and 'crime against humanity'. In the retrial following the reversal decision, the files of Ekici and the fugitive defendants were combined. On July 1, 2024, the court sentenced Ekici to aggravated life imprisonment for a total of 102 times, 1 for "attempting to overthrow the constitutional order" and 101 times for "intentional murder" against 101 people. The files of the 16 fugitive defendants for whom there was an arrest warrant were separated again.

CAUGHT IN SYRIA

Ömer Deniz Dündar, one of the fugitive defendants, was captured and brought to Turkey during the operation organized by MİT in Syria. While the defendant Ömer Deniz Dündar was connected to the hearing held today at Ankara 4th High Criminal Court via SEGBİS from the prison where he is detained, the complainants, relatives of those who lost their lives in the attack and lawyers of the parties were present in the hall. The hearing was followed by New Party Chairman Özgür Özel and his accompanying party executives and party members.

'I MAY HAVE HOLD THE EXPLOSIVE BELT'

The defendant was asked about his fingerprints on a vehicle seized in Hatay on June 23, 2017 and planned to be used in a terrorist attack, and on the explosive belt found inside. Defendant Dündar said, "It is impossible for my fingerprints to be found on the car. The car is in Turkey, I am in Syria. I do not know the people in the car, I definitely did not get in the car. The explosive belt was a belt that Ahmet Güneş made for himself. Güneş may have asked for my help while making the belt, and I may have held it."

The court decided to continue the defendant's detention and postponed the hearing to December 3.
