Jacob Misiorowski sets new MLB starting pitcher velocity records

Jacob Mizerowski (24, Milwaukee Brewers), who has emerged as a fastball pitcher representing Major League Baseball (MLB), has set a new milestone.

Mizerowski broke all records for the highest velocity by a starting pitcher in the game against the Philadelphia Phillies held at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA on the 13th (Korean time).

In the top of the first inning, Mizerowski struck out foul tips by throwing an incredibly fast ball of 104.5 mph (approximately 168.2 km) against Kyle Schwarber, the home run king who was Philadelphia's number one hitter.

104.5 mph is the highest velocity recorded by a starting pitcher since the pitch tracking system was introduced in 2008.

The previous record was 103.4 miles (166.4 km) set by Mizerowski himself in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on May 26.

On this day, Mizerowski’s streak of fastballs continued against Philadelphia.

Mizerowski threw a 103.5 mph (166.6 km) fastball against No. 2 hitter Trey Turner, striking out a swing, and threw a fastball at 104.1 mph (167.5 km) to No. 3 hitter Bryce Harper, also striking out a miss.

Mizerowski, who was in charge of the game alone, showed off his ‘iron arms’ by throwing a fastball of 103.7 miles (166.9 km) in the top of the 9th inning.

As a result, Mizerowski now holds the records for the 1st to 10th highest speeds among all-time starting pitchers.

In addition, Mizerowski, who stayed on the mound until the 9th inning and recorded a 6-0 shutout win with 15 strikeouts, 1 hit, and no runs, recorded 95 pitches and recorded the most strikeouts in history (Maddox's shutout with less than 100 pitches).

Of the 95 pitches, 58 were over 100 miles (160.9 km), surpassing the 57 he set against St. Louis on the 26th of last month.

Mizerowski's average fastball speed on this day was measured at a whopping 101.7 miles (163.7 km).

The fastest speed ever in MLB is 105.8 mph (170.3 km) recorded by Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman in 2010.
