An investigation is ongoing, as police await the results of a forensic analysis.

The Eels say they have notified the NRL integrity unit.

Police confirmed in a statement that Addo-Carr was driving in Sydney's inner-west along Enmore Road last night when he was stopped for a random test.

He was subjected to a roadside breath test for alcohol, which returned a negative result.

However, he returned a preliminary drug wipe, which allegedly returned a positive indication for cocaine.

An oral fluid sample was obtained from Addo-Carr and sent for further analysis.

The investigation is ongoing, as police await the results of the forensic analysis.

His current club, the Parramatta Eels, released a statement noting it was aware of an alleged incident involving Addo-Carr.

"The club has notified the NRL Integrity unit and is cooperating with the appropriate processes, as well as providing welfare support to Josh and his family," the statement read.

The Parramatta Eels said it would not be commenting further until the matter was finalised.

In 2024, Addo-Carr was sacked from his previous club, the Canterbury Bulldogs, after he failed a roadside drug test.

Addo-Carr was recalled to the Australian national side, the Kangaroos, and has played for New South Wales.

Across his decade-long career, the winger has scored more than 150 tries and won two premierships with the Melbourne Storm.

The alleged positive test could affect Addo-Carr's chances of being selected for Australia for next month's World Cup.

Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters said Addo-Carr could face consequences if the allegation was verified.

"I had a lot to do with Josh last year on the Kangaroo tour," Walters told Fox League.

"He's a great team player, had a good series, but this may have some ramifications around that as well."
