Court grants provisional release to driver involved in fatal hit-and-run accident

According to the Court, the benefit was granted because the driver meets legal requirements, such as having no criminal record, having a fixed address and work and attending higher education.

With the decision, Stefanny was released under the condition of being monitored by an electronic ankle bracelet. She is also banned from driving and drinking alcohol.

The collision happened on September 4th, in the São João Bosco neighborhood. Surveillance cameras (see video above) show the moment when the jeep driven by Stefanny advances on the right-of-way and hits João Pedro's motorcycle on the main road. The young man was thrown against the wall of a residence, and the woman fled the scene.

Police officers reported that the driver showed signs of intoxication, such as alcoholic breath, reddish eyes, drowsiness and difficulty balancing. According to the police report, she admitted that she had been drinking before driving.

The motorcyclist was rescued by the Fire Department and taken to João Paulo II Hospital and Emergency Room with intense bleeding. The medical team informed the police that the young man succumbed to his injuries and died in the unit.
