Man arrested for domestic and sexual violence against partner in Roraima

The arrest was coordinated by delegate Carolina Huppes, from the Specialized Police Station for Women's Assistance (Deam), following a request from the Public Ministry of Roraima (MPRR).

The investigation began on August 13, when the victim contacted the Civil Police and filed a police report. She reported a history of violence committed by her partner, with whom she had been in a relationship for around six years and has three children.

According to the report to the police, on the day of the complaint, around 6 am, the victim was physically and verbally attacked by her partner. He punched, slapped and kicked, as well as pulling her hair and trying to choke her.

The young woman also reported having been threatened with death and stated that the person being investigated said he would kill her with plant poison.

The victim said that the attacks were not an isolated episode and that she had suffered different forms of violence for years, in the presence of her children. In another episode, she was attacked with a belt and an electrical cord during the postpartum period, after a cesarean section.

The young woman also reported episodes of sexual violence. According to her, her partner forced her to have sexual intercourse against her will and, when she refused, she was physically attacked.

The victim stated that he had not contacted the police before for fear of being killed.

At the police station, the young woman requested urgent protective measures and informed the Civil Police that the man had already been charged with murder in Guyana.

His arrest was requested by the MPRR and authorized by the 1st Domestic and Family Violence Against Women Court. This Friday, Deam teams located the person under investigation and served the arrest warrant.

"The arrest represents the result of the investigative work carried out based on the victim's report and the measures adopted by the Civil Police. Our objective is to guarantee the protection of women and give effect to the measures provided for by law to hold those who commit domestic violence accountable", highlighted delegate Carolina Huppes.

The suspect was taken to Deam headquarters, where his arrest was formalized. He must be presented at a custody hearing this Saturday (12).
