Kaczynski loses power: PiS falls in polls

Vienna. Jaroslaw Kaczynski is in danger of losing his life's work. For many years, his national conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party has always been able to unite at least a third of the electorate behind it. However, surveys have been showing a decline in voter favorability for months, and with the split of the moderate wing around former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, it has plummeted. Some institutes now measure values ​​of less than 20 percent for the largest parliamentary party.

This does not mean that the right-wing camp's prospects for the election have worsened in just over a year. The opposition parties are still heading for a clear majority against Donald Tusk's unpopular government coalition.

But the various right-of-center groups no longer rally behind the PiS. At least for now, it is one party among many in an increasingly fragmented field. Kaczynski thus loses power. The crisis is self-inflicted and has a lot to do with the 77-year-old's personality.
