The Taiwan United Nations Association held a "Keep Taiwan Free" parade, and representatives from friendly countries came to support

This year's 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly opened on September 8 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The overseas Chinese community and associations in the East United States held the "Keep Taiwan Free" parade on September 12, New York time. Shi Shuhua, chairman of the Taiwan Association for the Advancement of the United Nations (TAIUNA), led a delegation to attend. Representatives of friendly countries to the United Nations also made a special trip to the end of the parade, calling on the international community not to exclude Taiwan. Among the members of the legislative inspection team for the UN General Assembly, only Democratic Progressive Party legislator Wang Yichuan responded to the parade. Kuomintang legislator Ye Yuanzhi and Kuomintang legislator Tsai Chun-sil were absent.

The Association pointed out that the "Keep Taiwan Free" parade started opposite the Chinese Consulate General in New York, passed 42nd Street, turned onto Fifth Avenue, and arrived at the New York Public Library at the end. Along the way, slogans such as "keep Taiwan free", "UN for Taiwan", and "Taiwan is a country" were shouted, conveying Taiwan's strong willingness to participate in the international community. Many New Yorkers and tourists from various countries waved enthusiastically to the parade to express their support. People from the United States and Japan also took the initiative to join the parade. John M. Silk, the representative of the friendly Marshall Islands to the United Nations, who has spoken out for Taiwan in the United Nations General Assembly several times, also made a special trip to the end of the march to make a speech calling on the international community not to exclude Taiwan.

In addition to the Taiwan United Nations Association for the Advancement of the United Nations, Democratic Progressive Party legislator Wang Yichuan, Kuomintang legislator Ye Yuanzhi, and People's Party legislator Cai Chunxiu also formed a founding committee delegation to New York. However, the Association pointed out that only Wang Yichuan attended the entire procession to express support, while Ye Yuanzhi and Cai Chunxiu did not attend. Shi Shuhua said that he was the leader of Ye Yuanzhi's removal last year and originally expected to meet Ye Yuanzhi at the scene to show that although the two had different political stances, they could speak out together abroad in order to support Taiwan's international participation. He was quite disappointed with Ye Yuanzhi's absence.

Shi Shuhua pointed out in his speech that it is ridiculous that Taiwan is not only an important producer of chips in the world, but will also become the 20th largest economy in the world, but it cannot join the United Nations. When the Taiwan United Nations Association was established 20 years ago, it was with the goal of promoting Taiwan to join the United Nations. This year, the association has revised its charter. Now it not only promotes Taiwan's membership in the United Nations, but also promotes Taiwan's membership in all international organizations it can join, such as the World Health Organization (WHO).

Shi Shuhua said that there may be debates within Taiwan about what to name our country, but overseas, whenever people ask us where we are from, we will always say "TAIWAN" because "we are all Taiwanese!"
