Kraków: Construction of a tram line to the Azores with EU funding

Will the inhabitants of the Azores finally have a tram? Everything seems to indicate yes.

The Krakow city hall announced today that the project to build a tram line on the Krowodrza Górka - Azores section has been approved for co-financing from the European Union.

The total value of the investment is approximately PLN 250 million, of which over PLN 172 million will be covered by EU funds.

Obtaining EU funding is a milestone in the preparation of one of the most important communication investments in the north-western part of Krakow - emphasize the city authorities.

The planned tram line will be approximately 2.3 km long. The double-track route will connect the existing "Krowodrza Górka P+R" loop with a new loop that will be built near the intersection of Weissa and Jaremy streets in the Azory housing estate.

The investment also includes the construction of a track triangle in the area of ​​Opolska and Weissa streets and a section of track northwards - towards the railway line No. 95 Kraków Mydlniki - Kraków Batowice.

The project includes not only tracks, but also new sidewalks, bicycle paths and pedestrian and bicycle paths. In the area of ​​Opolska Street, there will be a transfer parking lot for approximately 205 cars, with places for people with disabilities and infrastructure for bicycles.

When will we travel on the new line?

Currently, the Municipal Investment Board in Krakow is taking steps to obtain a decision on permitting the implementation of a road investment (ZRID). At the same time, materials are being prepared to announce a tender for construction works.
