Increased service and reduced fares on Honam and Jeolla lines through KTX-SRT integration

With the integrated operation of KTX and SRT, the number of high-speed trains on the Honam and Jeolla lines has increased and the supply of seats has increased, and fares have also been reduced.

According to Jeonnam Gwangju Unified City on the 6th, as KTX and SRT were integrated into one operating system from the 1st, the number of daily operations on the Honam Line increased from 95 to 100 on weekdays (Monday to Thursday) and from 96 to 100 on weekends (Friday to Sunday).

Accordingly, the daily seat supply increased by 3,742 seats on weekdays and 4,822 seats on weekends.

Jeollaseon also increases from 40 to 45 times a day on weekdays and from 45 to 54 times on weekends, providing an additional 1,957 and 2,511 seats, respectively.

By station, the number of high-speed trains at Gwangju Songjeong Station increased from 89 to 96 on weekdays and from 90 to 96 on weekends.

Yeosu Expo Station increased from 36 to 43 on weekdays and from 39 to 48 on weekends.

KTX fares were also lowered by an average of 10% as they were adjusted to the existing SRT level.

The fare based on Yongsan-Gwangju Songjeong was lowered by 4,800 won from 46,800 won to 42,000 won, and 5% of the payment amount is accumulated as mileage.

With the integration, the reservation system, which was divided into KORAIL and SR, has also been unified and tickets can be reserved through the 'KORAIL+' app and the KORAIL website.

General ticket sales for the Chuseok holiday (for operations from September 23rd to 27th), the first holiday after integration, will be held for each route from the 7th to the 11th.

Reservations can be made for trains departing and arriving at Yongsan Station on the Honam Line and Jeolla Line from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 9th, and for trains departing and arriving at Suseo Station on the 10th.

Jeonnam Gwangju City plans to propose to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport that new high-speed rail vehicles will be introduced sequentially starting in 2027 and additional expansion of the Honam Line and Jeolla Line in line with the opening of the Pyeongtaek-Osong double track at the end of 2028.

Kim Young-seon, head of the transportation headquarters of Jeonnam Gwangju City, said, “The effects of high-speed rail integration are showing up in increased seats, lower fares, and improved reservation convenience,” and added, “We will analyze the usage performance after integration and make efforts to increase the number of high-speed trains in the Honam area.”
