Remains of love flower seeds were found in a 4 thousand year old Hittite pot in Külhöyük

Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, stated in his post on his NSosyal account that they have unearthed Ankara's 5,000-year-old memory with a new discovery in Külhöyük.

Ersoy said, "During the excavations we carried out in Hatti and the Hittite city of Külhöyük, the oldest known seed remains of the endemic love flower (centaurea), which grows only in Ankara Gölbaşı, were found in a 4 thousand-year-old Hittite pot." he said.

Emphasizing that the traces of the love flower, which is under protection today and received a geographical indication in 2019, dating back thousands of years, opened a new window to the rich flora history of Anatolia, Ersoy said:

"We continue to shed light on the history of Külhöyük with new findings, with the work we carry out under the Presidential Decisive Excavation status, on behalf of our Ministry and Ankara University, under the direction of Associate Professor Derya Yılmaz Tekin. I would like to thank our General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums and our expert teams for their devoted work."
