Hygiene scandal in KYK dormitory: Worms and insects found in food

A hygiene scandal occurred again at KYK Berrin Menderes Girls' Dormitory, which hosts thousands of university students in Efeler district of Aydın. Students who encountered worms and insects in the meals served to them in the dormitory cafeteria reacted greatly to the situation.

Students stated that they had reported similar problems to the dormitory management many times before, but no permanent solution was produced, and that they were left helpless after the sickening sight they encountered. University students trying to make their voices heard stated that they were forced to eat from outside despite their tight budgets and rebelled by saying, "When we see this view, we do not want to eat, we are forced to buy it from outside. Our health is disregarded."

Students demanded that, instead of ostensible practices, independent and regular hygiene inspections be carried out in dormitory cafeterias and that complaints be taken into consideration without being ignored.

The insect scandal in the dormitory in question brought to mind the food poisoning case that occurred in January. Nearly 20 female students who ate at the dormitory were taken to the emergency room on suspicion of poisoning, the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry took samples and an investigation was launched.
