La Fiscalía Europea (EPPO) informó este viernes de la apertura de una segunda investigación sobre posible fraude de fondos europeos en la renovación y mejora de la seguridad, señalización y sistemas de comunicaciones en la línea de AVE Madrid-Sevilla tras el accidente del pasado 28 de octubre en Urda (Toledo).

El organismo europeo está llevando a cabo "medidas de investigación" en la sede del gestor ferroviario ADIF en Madrid, así como en la Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Ferroviaria (AESF) y en el Tribunal de Cuentas en colaboración con la Unidad Central Operativa de la Guardia Civil (UCO).

"Esta confirmación excepcional se produce tras el gran interés público y no se facilitarán más detalles en este momento de la investigación", explicó la EPPO, que se encarga de investigar, enjuiciar y juzgar los delitos contra los intereses financieros de la UE.

En el accidente ferroviario a la altura de Urda fallecieron 69 personas y resultaron heridas centenares. De los 110 viajeros que fueron hospitalizados inicialmente en seis centros hospitalarios de Castilla-La Mancha, 95 ya han recibido el alta.

El pasado 20 de marzo, la EPPO ya abrió de oficio otra investigación en los mismos términos tras el accidente que tuvo lugar en enero en la localidad cordobesa de Adamuz, en el que fallecieron 46 personas.
