According to the statement made by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lavrov spoke at the 81st UN General Assembly held in New York.
Referring to the actions of the West, Minister Lavrov said, "The West, which is in the minority, is trying to impose its own rules on other countries. The West often resorts to brute force, acts in an unpredictable and adventurous way, endangering the lives and well-being of millions, even billions of people living on our common planet."
Reminding that the USA intervened militarily in Venezuela at the beginning of the year and detained President Nicolas Maduro, Lavrov stated that the Venezuelan leader and his wife should be released as soon as possible and similar events should not be repeated in the future.
Reminding that Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family were killed in the US and Israeli attacks, Lavrov emphasized that this was unacceptable. Lavrov said that it is worrying that peaceful nuclear facilities as well as civilian infrastructures are targeted in attacks against Iran.
Stating that there are armed conflicts from time to time in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, Lavrov underlined that this harms maritime navigation security and trade.
Stating that the current crisis can be resolved by establishing trust in relations between Arab countries and Iran, Lavrov stated that Russia is ready to contribute to stabilizing the situation in this region together with other countries.
Stating that Cuba was subjected to pressure from the USA, Lavrov stated that urgent measures should be taken to improve the humanitarian situation in this country.
Lavrov said, "We stand in solidarity with the Cuban people and administration. We call for the removal of the blockade of Liberty Island and all restrictions on trade with Cuba, and for the country to be removed from the list of states supporting terrorism."
Emphasizing that the West applies double standards and destabilizes the situation everywhere, Lavrov said that pressure was put on Serbia to impose sanctions on Russia.
Referring to the Palestine issue, Sergey Lavrov said:
"The time has come for the establishment of the State of Palestine in line with the UN decisions. The UNSC approved the US peace plan for the Gaza Strip. However, peace has not been achieved there. The elderly, women and children are still dying there, and the humanitarian situation is critical. The situation in the West Bank, where Israel is expanding its settlement activities, is also deteriorating. If this continues, the State of Palestine will not be established, because there will be no room for the state. In this case, Israel's security will be under constant threat."
Emphasizing that the UN should take urgent steps to stop the negative trend of the situation in the Middle East, Lavrov said that this also applies to Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia and other African countries.
Referring to the Ukraine crisis, Lavrov said:
"Europe is doing its best to prevent a peaceful solution and the negotiation process, which is important to many countries, including the administration of US President Donald Trump. The West provides the Ukrainian administration with weapons and helps direct unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles against civilians and civilian infrastructure. In the West, dreams of strategic defeat of Russia are being dreamed. However, as has happened many times in the past, these dreams will drag those who instigate war into a strategic dead end."
Noting that the Russian language is prohibited in Ukraine, Lavrov emphasized that this is against the UN Charter and said, "The goals of our special military operation (in Ukraine) will be achieved, threats to Russia's security will be eliminated, peaceful life will be re-established. This will happen despite all conditions."
Criticizing NATO's actions, Lavrov said, "NATO is trying to spread its destructive influence in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, outside its area of responsibility."
Regarding the reform in the UNSC, Lavrov said, "The reform of the UNSC cannot envisage giving additional seats to Western countries, especially Germany and Japan, which are on the path of militarization. We are in favor of increasing the representation of Asia, Africa and Latin America. We support the permanent membership of Brazil and India, and advocate the protection of the interests of the African continent."
Minister Lavrov said that the UN has a special responsibility in the face of the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies.
