Leo XIV in Lourdes: “Human dignity cannot be discussed”

No to euthanasia. Human “dignity” “cannot be discussed”, launched Leo XIV during his meeting with patients on Sunday afternoon in Lourdes, in the context of the adoption this summer, by the French parliament, of legislation opening this right in France.

“The human person is worthy, by the simple fact that he exists and has eternity as his end. His dignity cannot be measured and cannot be discussed,” he insisted during a visit to L’Accueil Notre-Dame, this institution of the Lourdes sanctuaries which organizes the stay of sick pilgrims, their care and their accommodation in suitable premises. A volunteer in this structure for around fifteen years, a woman now disabled following a bicycle accident gave, in front of a very moved Pope, an absolutely moving testimony.

Of course, recognized the Pope - a former missionary in Peru who knows the full range of human suffering - the weight endured is often too heavy, but that cannot justify the perspective...
