Linda Teuteberg is aiming for the position of Brandenburg processing representative

It's about experiences of injustice in the Soviet occupation zone and in the GDR: The FDP deputy leader Linda Teuteberg (45) would like to become the new Brandenburg representative for dealing with the consequences of the communist dictatorship. Predecessor Maria Nooke is retiring and recommended Teuteberg for the post.

"I believe there is a right to one's own experiences and also memories of beautiful private things or of decent behavior and performance at work," said Teuteberg in a round of introductions in the main committee in front of the state parliamentary groups. The AfD was not present. It is important to strengthen democracy. “But facts are not the subject of negotiations; historical facts and the classification of a political system.”

The State of Brandenburg's processing representative supports and advises people who were politically persecuted or harmed by the Soviet occupation and the GDR dictatorship (1945–1990). She also advises public authorities on how to deal with Stasi documents and educates the public about the GDR dictatorship.

Teuteberg was still a child in 1989

Teuteberg was born in April 1981 in Königs Wusterhausen (Dahme-Spreewald district). She was eight years old at the time of the peaceful revolution. After Ulrike Poppe and Nooke, she would be the first commissioner who was not active in the GDR citizens' movement.

Teuteberg is a lawyer and deputy federal chairwoman of the FDP. She was a member of the state parliament in Potsdam from 2009 to 2014 and a member of the Bundestag from 2017 to 2025. She is active in the association Against Forgetting – For Democracy. Since 2025 she has led the newly founded circle of friends of the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial.

She would be a new generation in coming to terms with the GDR

Teuteberg would like to take over the position and sees this as a generational change. If it is important to us to “further anchor the topic in education, training and social debates, then there also needs to be a generational change and a transfer of this knowledge and this topic to new generations,” said the 45-year-old.

The coalition factions of the SPD and CDU support Teuteberg as the new representative. State Parliament President Ulrike Liedtke sees no hurdle in the fact that she is an active FDP politician: “One is voluntary work, the other is full-time work.” Nooke's successor is to be elected in the state parliament in October.
