Lufthansa A380 damaged on approach to Munich

A Lufthansa Airbus A380 touched down in front of the runway during its approach to Munich Airport. As the television station RTL first reported, the plane coming from San Francisco touched the runway lighting on Monday. Several of the Airbus' tires as well as the lighting on the ground were damaged. Flight LH459 with 351 people on board landed safely in Munich and was then able to continue onto the tarmac. The Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) is involved and is investigating the case. Lufthansa confirmed the reports. A possible explanation for the incident: The weather in the region was very changeable at the time. It was humid, there were locally severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. In such conditions, surprising wind movements can occur, from side to side to ridge to downdrafts. This can have a significant impact on the landing. The plane remained on the ground for the time being after the incident. There was already an incident at Munich Airport on Saturday - on the same runway. A Boeing 787-9 from Vietnam Airlines bound for Hanoi ran over the runway and was just able to take off. Videos shared on social media showed a huge cloud of dust and vibrations in the cabin.
