Lyon: the swimming project in the Darse threatened by the metropolis

Scheduled for the summer of 2027, river swimming in the Darse, in Lyon, Confluence district, may never see the light of day. Unlike the town hall, the metropolis of Lyon should oppose the project, indicates to Le Figaro Pierre Oliver, vice-president of Greater Lyon in charge of roads and traffic and mayor of the 2nd arrondissement. “There is of course strong opposition from local residents. But what we also don’t really want is to import to Lyon the sad summer experience of the Canal Saint-Martin in Paris,” confides the elected representative from Les Républicains.

Mayor of the district where the Confluence district is located, Pierre Oliver believes that “swimming in the Darse will create a resonance and have a strong impact on the lives of local residents around the swimming area”. “And, unfortunately, what we will gain in access to water, we will lose in terms of living conditions. In Confluence, people already have the train and the highway which crosses Lyon, we are not going to add an additional nuisance to them.”
