Macron orders plan to protect France from Russian hybrid attacks

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has confirmed that he has ordered this Friday a plan to protect France from attacks against critical infrastructure on French soil, amid the growing "aggressiveness" of Russia that has "multiplied attacks against European interests."

As noted, the meeting of the security committee with the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, asked the Government to "prepare a plan to protect critical infrastructures", as well as "the most sensitive locations of the Defense industrial and technological base, against drone attacks and cyberattacks."

This step comes after highlighting that hybrid attacks by Russia have been on the rise in recent months. "Since this summer, Russia has multiplied attacks against European interests. "The nature of Russian aggressiveness and its threats in Europe is changing," he noted, after giving the example of the incident at Leizpig airport that German authorities attributed to an attempted Russian attack.

Macron has stressed that the country also continues to work on improving its response to foreign interference and cyber attacks. "France was one of the first countries in Europe to organize itself in this area, creating Viginum five years ago, developing its methods and helping Romania or Moldova, to name just a few examples, when they were subject to attacks," he explained.

This step comes in parallel with the plans confirmed by the President of France, who states that work will be done at all levels, both regional and local, to prepare for "hybrid threats."
