The city of Rio Branco began the transition to a new public transport operator, JTP Transportes, on October 2.
The Municipal Transport and Traffic Superintendence of Rio Branco (RBTrans) decided to extend the deadline for transferring credits from cards from the old public transport ticketing system after serving more than 6 thousand people until this Saturday morning (10).
Service at Shopping Aquiry continues until Sunday (11). However, from Tuesday (13th), users must look for the RBTrans headquarters, from 7:30 am to 4 pm, to make the transfer. The forecast is to maintain the service throughout the month of October, without ending service after the initial deadline.
The change comes after great demand for the service, which caused queues at Shopping Aquiry, in the center of the capital, last Friday (9).
Passengers reported delays, long waiting hours and difficulties in completing the procedure, including due to a flaw in the system used to transfer funds.
According to the Director of Transport at RBTrans, Weima Kedila, the expectation is to exceed 10 thousand services. The authority assesses that, upon reaching this volume, the flow of users should decrease.
"During this week, we served an average of 6 thousand users. We have a forecast of more than 10 thousand services and we believe that, after this number, this flow will already decrease. Next week will still be fundamental for us to reach this quantity", he explained.
The demand for the service led passengers to arrive at Aquiry Shopping Center in the early hours of the morning. Student Sara Rebeca said she arrived at the location around 5am this Saturday and found a line that stretched down the street.
"I arrived today at around 5am and there was already a queue. The queue went all the way up the street. We waited, and it took a while to get in. We've been here for a long time waiting for the form, and it ends up causing confusion, people arguing with the attendants", he reported.
Sara also said that she had tried to make the transfer on Friday (9), but had to return the next day because the system was not working.
"Yesterday I arrived here at 6 am and left at around 11:25 am, because there was no way to do it and the system wasn't working. They asked us to leave our name and file number to be attended to again today. So, I'm here again to try", he said.
According to RBTrans, the transfer is only necessary for students and users who use transport vouchers.
People with free cards intended for the elderly and people with disabilities or other special needs are exempt from the procedure.
The change is part of the transition to the new public transport operation in Rio Branco, which began running on October 2nd with buses from the company JTP Transportes, responsible for Com Rio Branco operations.
Public transport fares are free until Sunday (11). From Monday (12), passengers will once again pay for their tickets, in accordance with the system rules. Therefore, RBTrans advises that users who need to transfer credits pay attention to opening hours and locations.
"These people who are here are generally people who work during the week, that's why we extended the service until Sunday, [we will be] here every weekend to serve these people who cannot during the week and also because, with the end of the free service which ends on the 11th and on Monday they would already have to pay, so it is important for them to make this transfer beforehand", concluded Weima.
