Abuse in the family: 51-year-old sentenced to 3 years and 9 months ends up in prison

He had been sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in addition to a 5-year ban from public office, for mistreatment of his wife and 9-year-old daughter. Now for a 51-year-old of Indian origin - resident in Castelnovo Sotto, in Lower Reggiana - the sentence has become final and he has been taken to prison.

The disputed facts date back to a period between July 2018 and April 2023 with the police documenting a series of violent episodes. According to what has been reconstructed, the man was often drunk, accused his wife of having a lover and insulted his daughter because she wanted a son. Furthermore, on several occasions he attacked them by throwing chairs, rolling pins and various objects at them.

Until the most serious of the episodes in April 2023 when he slapped the woman, holding a knife to her throat; to try to push him away, she grabbed the blade, cutting the tendons of her right hand, sustaining injuries with a prognosis of three months. Also on that occasion, the little daughter, trying to defend her mother, was pushed against the refrigerator and hit with a slap. Both victims - now in a protected facility - managed to escape from the house, escaping from a neighbor who then alerted the police.
