Double murder of South Sudanese Australian boys reignites debate on youth gang violence in Melbourne

Two South Sudanese Australian boys, 12-year-old Chol Achiek and 15-year-old Dau Akueng, were allegedly murdered by a group of teenagers in Melbourne’s outer west in September last year. Their deaths reignited debate on youth gang violence and prompted the formation of a government expert working group, whose final report—delivered over eight months ago—has not been released. Community leaders and families urge action, citing ongoing fear and lack of engagement, while officials say they continue to listen and work toward solutions.
