Marine Tondelier: Environmentalists ready to discuss again with the left for the presidential election

Marine Tondelier, national secretary of the Ecologists, declared in an interview with La Tribune that she is ready to discuss again with all the left-wing parties to form a common front in the 2024 presidential election, despite the recent failure of the unitary primary. It offers bilateral meetings to discuss projects, strategies and the path to victory. This initiative aims to overcome the fragmentation of the left eight months before the election. Environmentalists insist on the need for a “common political space” based on key themes such as the ecological transition, the exit from fossil fuels, and the construction of a federal Europe. The landscape of the left remains very fragmented, with several candidates already in the campaign, notably Jean-Luc Mélenchon (LFI), Fabien Roussel (PCF), and François Ruffin (ex-Insoumis). The Ecologists' approach seeks to respond to current challenges, notably environmental crises and the need for unity in the face of elections.

Marine Tondelier is maintaining her candidacy for the moment, stressing that her decision to run will not depend on the will of the other parties but on the ability to build a shared project. The Ecologists highlight their availability to work with everyone, without exception, to avoid a division which could lead to the elimination of the left in the first round in many constituencies.
