The identity of the body found on the ship that sank in the Sea of Marmara has been revealed

The ships named ALSU and Tuğberk İmamoğlu, which were operating commercially, collided in the Marmara Sea on September 2, and as a result of the collision, the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship sank and its crew of 10 people disappeared.

Following the incident, an investigation was launched by the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. During the search and rescue efforts carried out in the region to reach the missing crew, the lifeless body of a man was found off the coast of Silivri yesterday.

It was determined that the body taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute belonged to the ship's 2nd Captain, Rahmi Temel. Temel's body was received by his family after the procedures were completed. It was learned that the funeral will be held on Saturday, October 31, at the Hacı Mustafa Beşikçioğlu Mosque in İzmir Karşıyaka, following the noon prayer.

“AFTER I RECEIVED THE NEWS, I FELT AS IF BOILING WATER WAS POURED ON MY HEAD.”

Speaking in front of the Forensic Medicine Institute, Rahmi Temel's older brother, Remzi Temel, said: "As a result of a very painful maritime accident, 10 of our sailors sank into the waters of the Marmara Sea. Today is -12 on the 57th day. One body was removed a day - the second body is my brother. It was not happy for us, it was sad. Believe me, after I received the news today, I felt like boiling water had been poured on my head. But at least we will have the comfort of being reunited with the body, we will have a grave. "That's why we are here, we are waiting for our funeral to be given," he said.

“IT IS POSSIBLE NOT TO BE MISAPPROPRIATE”

Stating that the family has been worn out in the 2 months since the accident, Temel said:

"They said that he was on the ship yesterday. We received news in the evening. They told us that a body was found. The identification was made and informed today. This incident took place off the coast of Silivri, 35 kilometers away from Silivri. In a deep place called the Marmara Pit. I hope the other survivors will be rescued and taken out. I hope they will be taken out. His family is miserable. He has 2 daughters, they are miserable. They live in Izmir. Now, we will go to Izmir after a while from here. Distraught. "It's impossible not to. You've had a loss for 2 months. You've been waiting with hope, even if it's 1 in 10,000, but today being told 'The missing person has been found' creates more sadness than joy."

“HE WILL RETIRE IN 7 MONTHS”

Recai Yılmaz, the uncle of Abdulbaki Mirzaoğlu, who disappeared after the accident, also came to the Forensic Medicine Institute to support Rahmi Temel's family.

Yılmaz said, "Abdulbaki Mirzaoğlu is my nephew. He had been working as a chef on these ships for 4 years. He was going to retire in 7 months. He is 48 years old, the father of 8 children. His family did not agree with him working on the ship, because his children were growing up without seeing their father. Searches are also carried out in the sea, on the ship or on the seabed on the side of the ship. We were 10 families as a family, but we have decreased to 9. 9 families are waiting in tents in Silivri."
