Raise demands for civil servants and retirees: Inflation difference must be compensated

Civil servants and retired civil servants received a 7 percent collective bargaining increase in the second half of this year. The cumulative two-month inflation was approximately 3.65 percent. More than half of the raise given to civil servants and retired civil servants disappeared in two months. This melting is expected to continue in the coming months. If the 6-month inflation exceeds 7 percent, the difference will be given to civil servants and retired civil servants in January as inflation difference. In the face of melting salaries and pensions, two basic demands came from the civil servants.

ADDITIONAL RAISE REQUEST

Türkiye Kamu-Sen Chairman Önder Kahveci requested an additional increase to cover the losses of public employees and retirees. Kahveci also demanded the implementation of the welfare share application, which will ensure that employees and retirees get the share they deserve from economic growth and national income increase. Kahveci said, "In addition, a system in which the inflation difference will be reflected in the salaries as of the month in which it occurs should be created to prevent our employees from experiencing losses for six months."

Memur-Sen also demanded compensation for the losses. Memur-Sen demanded, "Instead of spreading the losses over time, a real improvement should be implemented without wasting time with a linear increase that will compensate for the decrease in purchasing power."

50 PERCENT RAISE REQUEST

United Public-İş pointed out that public employees and retirees were given a 7 percent raise in July, in accordance with the collective agreement, apart from the inflation difference, and emphasized that "52 percent of this increase, which was made to cover the inflation in the remaining six months of the year, has disappeared in the last two months." United Public Works stated that giving a 50 percent raise has now become a necessity.
