Mexico: Sheinbaum extends agreement to freeze fuel prices for six months

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced the extension for another six months of the agreement with fuel dealers to keep prices stable and contain inflation.

Through its social channels, it confirmed the measure by declaring: "At the National Palace we renew the voluntary agreement with petrol stations to fight inflation and high prices in support of the economy and the well-being of Mexican families".

The agreement, which began in February 2025 and was last renewed on March 11, sets the cost of gasoline at around $1.20 per liter and that of diesel at $1.35.

To finance the initiative, the government waives approximately $250 million in taxes each week.

Enrique Félix Robelo, director of Onexpo, the main Mexican association of fuel distributors, reassured about the sustainability of the plan: "The mechanisms exist to be able to support and withstand the pressures that have occurred globally with the price of oil and we believe that the Ministry of Finance will apply the fiscal stimuli responsibly."
