Mexico considers increasing US imports to reduce trade imbalance

The Mexican government is considering increasing imports of US goods to offset the trade surplus ahead of the renewal of the North American treaty. President Claudia Sheinbaum explained that electronics exports to her northern neighbor are growing thanks to artificial intelligence and data centers in the United States.

Sheinbaum acknowledged pressures on grade gaps in the interchange. "We are interested in expanding exports, but President Trump has said it publicly, he wants to reduce what is exported from Mexico to the USA through various mechanisms. One method is for us to buy more from them, instead of buying from other nations", he declared, confirming the ongoing analyses.

On the Canadian front, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has rejected pressure for disadvantageous agreements. “Canada and Mexico are working together, they will continue with this firm position to protect and enhance the success of the three countries of North America,” he said, recalling the effective negotiating cooperation of 2018.
