A man tore up a voting card in Krakow - he faces up to three years in prison

Information about the incident was provided by the spokesman of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Krakow, Piotr Szpiech.

As he reported, an elderly man who came to one of the polling stations in Wola Justowska, took the ballot card, then tore it up and threw it into the garbage. According to the regulations, destroying a ballot card is punishable by up to three years in prison, the policeman said.

The chairman of the Municipal Electoral Commission in Krakow, Krzysztof Dyl, confirmed that the commission received information about this event. He emphasized that each resident is entitled to download only one card, which means that if he makes a mistake or destroys the issued card, he will not have a chance to fill out a new one.

According to him, apart from this one incident, the elections in Krakow are going smoothly. Earlier, the police reported a single incident of breaking the election silence - by placing an agitating post on a social networking site. Until 17, the police did not record any further breaches of the peace. Residents can cast their votes until 21 in 454 districts.

Elections in Krakow. How to cast a valid vote?

There are eight names on the ballot in alphabetical order. For your vote to be valid, you must enter an "x" next to the name of one of the candidates. The vote cast for Jan Hoffman will be invalid because the candidate resigned from running in the elections. However, if a resident votes for both Hoffman and one of the other registered candidates, then the vote will be considered valid and cast for the undeleted candidate. There are notices at polling stations informing about this.

According to the estimates of the chairman of the Municipal Electoral Commission, Krzysztof Dyl, approx. 22 protocols from precinct commissions will begin to be sent to the Municipal Electoral Commission, and the final election results will be announced between 3 and 4 a.m. The results will be posted on the city hall doors. Early elections in the capital of Małopolska are the result of the dismissal of Aleksander Miszalski (Civic Coalition) from the office of city mayor in May by referendum.

Until a new president is elected, the city is managed by Stanisław Kracik, who was Miszalski's deputy. If, as a result of voting on Sunday, no candidate receives more than half of the votes, two weeks later, on October 11, the two people with the highest result will face each other in the second round.
