Statement from MHP's Feti Yıldız about the 'NEW Party' and the number of political parties

Feti Yıldız, Deputy Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in Charge of Legal and Electoral Affairs, made an evaluation on the NEW Party's name discussions on his social media account.

Feti Yıldız stated that on July 24, 2026, Özgür Özel and 90 deputies who left the CHP founded a political party under the name of "YENI Party", and after the representative of the party previously established under the name of "Innovation Party" objected to the NEW Party name, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court of Appeals warned the NEW Party to "Change the party name".

Yıldız said:

"Leaving aside the fact that there was a similar decision in this direction before and the statements of the NEW Party founders, let us briefly remember the following points. Today, the number of political parties registered with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court of Appeals is 189, and the number of political parties that meet the conditions for participating in the election according to the Supreme Electoral Council's decision numbered 2026/159 is 41.

"In the last parliamentary general election held on May 14, 2023, the votes received by these parties participating in the election can be seen on the YSK website, and it is an indisputable fact that the vote rates of these parties, which are described as signboard parties and have no contribution to the social life of the country, are at most two per thousand in the list."

Yıldız stated that 14 of the 24 political parties that participated in the last parliamentary general election received votes between one per thousand and two per thousand, and that when the records of the Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Public Prosecutor's Office are examined, it will be seen that some parties do not even have 100-200 members throughout the country.
