National swimmer Eda Savcigil crossed the Molokai Canal

National swimmer Eda Sözcügil completed the 42-kilometer Molokai (Kaiwi) Canal in Hawaii, which is among the Ocean Seven of the world's challenging open water courses, in 12 hours and 41 minutes.

According to the statement made by Yaşar University, 18-year-old Eda Savcıgil, a business faculty student of the university, became the youngest Turkish swimmer to cross the Molokai Canal.

Eda, who swam on the course from Molokai Island to Oahu Island, struggled with difficult conditions such as suddenly rising large waves in the Pacific Ocean, strong currents, poisonous jellyfish and sharks.

Eda Sözcügil, whose views were included in the statement, stated that she aimed to complete the Ocean Seven Race and said, "Being the youngest Turkish swimmer to cross the Molokai Canal and completing the course successfully and healthily despite the ocean and weather conditions motivated me even more."

Eda Sözcügil completed the first stage of the Ocean Seven by swimming the 32-kilometer Catalina Channel in 10 hours and 27 minutes, and became the fastest Turkish female swimmer and the youngest Turkish athlete on this course.
