Der Wunsch nach Reduzierung entsteht offenbar vor allem, wenn die Betroffenen vergleichsweise lange Wochenarbeitszeiten haben. Diese lag im Schnitt bei 40,9 Stunden und sollte nach Vorstellungen der Befragten durchschnittlich um 10,5 Stunden abgesenkt werden. Auf mögliche Einkommensverluste war in der Fragestellung hingewiesen worden.

Umgekehrt betrug bei den Menschen mit zusätzlichem Arbeitswunsch die tatsächliche Arbeitszeit nur 26,2 Stunden. Sie sind meist in Teilzeit beschäftigt und wünschten sich im Schnitt 10,5 Arbeitsstunden zusätzlich.

Die durchschnittliche Wochenarbeitszeit sämtlicher Erwerbstätiger würde von derzeit 34,7 Stunden um 0,6 Stunden (36 Minuten) sinken, wenn alle Wünsche erfüllt würden, haben die Statistiker errechnet.
