Death Sentence to TV Presenter Sarah Khalifa and 11 People in Egypt

Presenter Sarah Khalifa, known for her television program in which she discusses security and crime-related issues in Egypt, and 11 others were sentenced to death for producing and trafficking drugs. It was reported that within the scope of the drug operation, the authorities seized more than 750 kilograms of drugs and raw materials and found unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as two addresses stated to be used in drug production.

An Egyptian court sentenced well-known television presenter Sarah Khalifa and 11 others to death penalty for producing and trafficking drugs in a wide-ranging drug case. In the news in the country's press, it was stated that the authorities seized more than 750 kilograms of drugs and raw materials, found two addresses stated to be used in drug production, as well as unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to the news of the state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper, the court in the capital Cairo sentenced Khalifa and 11 defendants to death penalty by hanging for the crimes of "establishing an organized crime group aiming to produce and trade drugs by supplying the substances used in drug production, and possessing and carrying unlicensed firearms and ammunition".

The court also sentenced Khalifa and several other defendants to 5 years in prison in a separate case regarding the kidnapping and assault of a young man.

It was noted that before the death sentence, the court applied to the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Nazir Muhammed Ayyad, to obtain the religious opinion that is mandatory in death cases under Egyptian law. It was stated that the court decision was open to appeal.

It was stated that Khalifa also owns a plastic surgery clinic and a production company specializing in party and event organizations. The 39-year-old presenter is known for his program "Mission Impossible", where he discusses issues related to security and crime.

It is known that the death penalty is imposed in Egypt for premeditated murder, terrorist acts, some rape crimes and drug trafficking crimes. According to the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms, 541 death sentences were given in the country in 2025.
