Aquilina Maria de Jesus, aged 118, one of the oldest women in the world, died on Wednesday (23), in the village of Pedrolândia, in the rural area of Queimadas, in the north of Bahia. She was born in 1908, in a region that currently belongs to the municipality of Candeal, but which, at the time, was part of Riachão do Jacuípe, which is about 70 km from Feira de Santana.

Candeal was emancipated from Riachão do Jacuípe in 1963. Therefore, although she was born in an area that today belongs to Candeal, Aquilina is considered a native of Riachão do Jacuípe, according to her family's report.

Aquilina died from age-related complications. She turned 118 years old in May this year. She leaves behind family members and a life story that spanned more than a century.

The wake was held at the residence where she lived. The burial took place at 8am this Thursday (24).
