Today, Sunday 6 September 2026, the fifth day of the 83rd edition of the Venice Biennale International Film Festival opened (THE PROGRAM - THE RED CARPET OF THE FIFTH DAY - ALL FILMS IN COMPETITION). Amanda Seyfried, Louis Garrel and Valeria Golino were spotted at the Lido in the morning. At the awards ceremony of the eighth edition of the Filming Italy Venice Award hosted by Tiziana Rocca, among the winners Irina Shayk, Lino Banfi, Pilar Fogliati, Monica Guerritore, Matilde Gioli, Herbert Ballerina and Massimiliano Gallo, Eduardo Scarpetta, Leo Gassmann, Clara McGregor, Malcom McRae, Alessandro Preziosi, Ilenia Pastorelli, Irene Maiorino, Alanah Bloor, Sveva Alviti, Beatrice Arnera, Aurora Quattrocchi and Alessio Vassallo.
Among the 21 films in Competition is the Italian The Echo Chamber (THE TRAILER) by Andrea Pallaoro, based on a screenplay by Bernardo Bertolucci and starring Luca Marinelli, Alicia Vikander and Susan Sarandon. The Oscar-winning actress said she was excluded from several Hollywood projects after her public support for Palestine.
Also in competition is the film Possible Love by Chang-dong Lee. Two married couples, two worlds that meet through the camera: a fired worker and his wife, a documentary maker and her husband.
Finally, still in Competition, there is the film Woman Unknown by May el-Toukhy. Marie is about to marry Christian, the rich widower for whom she works as a maid and nanny. For her, marriage means becoming the lady of the house. But there's a secret that could shatter everything.
Out of Competition are the Non Fiction films From Inside Out – The Architecture of Peter Zumthor by Wim Wenders, Life of Jorge Luis Borges by Mariano Llinás and Holy Wood Dust by Victor Kossakovsky.
Also on the program is the Masterclass with Luc Besson.
In the Orizzonti section there are the films The Difficult Bride by Rubaiyat Hossain and Oasis by Jannis Lenz.
In the Biennale College Cinema section there is the film Moonfish by Daniel Zvereff.
In the Venice Spotlight section there is the film Hombre al Agua by Gael García Bernal and with Ricky Martin.
In the Venice Classics section there are the films The Long Night of '43 by Florestano Vancini and Cul-de-sac by Roman Polanski.
In the Giornate degli Autori section there are the films Carla Lonzi, inside and outside the world by Francesca Archibugi and Agata the Writer by Kuba Dorabialski and with Mia Wasikowska.
In the Critics' Week section there are the films Revolver by Paoli De Luca and London by Márcio Picoli and Victor Marco.
Ricky Martin in Venice
In Venice there is Ricky Martin, actor in the new film by Gael García Bernal, Hombre al Agua, presented in the Venice Spotlight section. The Latin pop icon stole the show at every appearance at the Lido and for the red carpet he chose the white silk jacket with micro polka dots with the matching shirt and dark trousers. The red carpet of the Venice Film Festival lights up with a strong political and social message. Actress Greta Scarano paraded in front of photographers wearing a semi-transparent red dress, but what caught everyone's attention was the red mark painted on her right cheek.
Stopping in the center of the red carpet, Scarano raised her open right hand towards the flashes: a clear and powerful "stop" sign that combines the universal blocking gesture with the symbol of the historic national campaign #NonÈNormaleCheSiaNormale against violence against women and gender. A moment of very strong visual impact that breaks the silence of the catwalk and launches a humanitarian and social appeal directly from the Lido.

«The thing that makes me most proud is that everything went well, that the films were liked and that everyone is satisfied. This is the best pay for the work done." The director of the Venice Film Festival is already looking ahead to tomorrow's turning point and also celebrating Nanni Moretti's return to the Lido: «Everyone was waiting for it. He was welcomed as a great teacher, with great affection. It was like healing a wound that had been unfairly created a long time ago." And he jokes about Oasis, protagonists at the Lido: «They are the reserve. When the drummer or bassist is missing, I take over."

Nanni Moretti received the Siae "Andrea Purgatori" Lifetime Achievement Award at the Venice Film Festival, a recognition awarded on the fiftieth anniversary of his film debut.
Siae rewarded the director for the extraordinary contribution offered to Italian cinema and culture, underlining his ability to transform personal experience into a tool for observing the reality and transformations of the country.
In accepting the award, Moretti recalled his long journey as a director, producer, distributor and exhibitor: «I have never done it out of duty, but always for pleasure». And he added: «If I really managed to tell the story of a generation with my stories and my characters, I consider it fortunate and an honor».
Letizia Arnò, from Checco Zalone's revelation to the face of the future of Italian cinema
After her debut as a protagonist in Buen Camino, the film by Checco Zalone directed by Gennaro Nunziante which dominated the 2026 box office, Letizia Arnò arrives at the Lido with clear ideas: no new project announced, but a great desire to continue studying, training and building her own path in cinema step by step.
Guest of the exhibition as godmother of the eighth edition of the Filming Italy Venice Award, the young actress looks ahead with enthusiasm: "I'm excited for what's to come", she said.
In Buen Camino Arnò she plays Cristal, the daughter of Zalone's character, in what was her first major role on the big screen. An experience that he defines as fundamental not only from a professional point of view, but also from a human point of view. "I was always the most insecure person in the world," she explained, recalling how Checco Zalone and Gennaro Nunziante helped her overcome fears and uncertainties and believe more in her own abilities.

Oversized white shirt, essential look and discreet smile: Valeria Bruni Tedeschi makes her entrance at the Venice Film Festival with the sober style that has always distinguished her. Among the guests of the day, the actress and director arrived at the Lido to accompany "L'estranea", the new film by Paolo Strippoli in competition at Venezia 83, where she stars alongside Jasmine Trinca, Romana Maggiora Vergano and Adriano Giannini.

The 3 Bitcoin Opera by Claudix Vanesix and Cristina Soto Arias (Peru/France) is the winning project of the pilot edition of Biennale College - Blend, the Venice Biennale program aimed at those who intend to create works that do not belong to a single predefined discipline. The 3 Bitcoin Opera was awarded today a prize of 20,000 euros as best project during the awards ceremony in the presence of Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, president of the Venice Biennale and Alberto Barbera, Artistic Director of Biennale Cinema, at the Spazio Incontri Immersive, at the Venice Immersive Island (Lazzaretto Vecchio). The 3 Bitcoin Opera reinterprets Brecht's Threepenny Opera through a contemporary world shaped by algorithmic power, surveillance capitalism, artificial intelligence, war economies, and ecological collapse. At the center of the work is the love story between Xenon9, a transfeminine cyborg trapped in the technological and financial systems of a futuristic city, and Felicidad, a transmasculine non-human being from the mountains, guardian of the ancestral memory of the living world.

Andrea Pallaoro's new film builds the story around the most fragile and ambiguous areas of human relationships. At the center of the work there is a love story in which the desire for closeness constantly coexists with the fear of loss and the impossibility of truly freeing oneself from the other. The relationship between the protagonists in fact develops in a borderland where apparently positive feelings such as affection and care can progressively take on more disturbing forms, to the point of becoming confused with dependence, obsession and control.

The Lucana Film Commission was the protagonist at the Italian Pavilion, as part of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, where it premiered the making of On the trail of Federico II in Basilicata, directed by Francesco Lopez. The event was enriched by the presence of Riccardo Scamarcio, actor and producer of the film whose shooting has recently concluded in view of the next release in cinemas. The meeting, which was also attended by the president of the Producers Association, Chiara Sbarigia, was the occasion for an important institutional announcement: the president of the Lucana Film Commission, Margherita Gina Romaniello, illustrated a new tender worth 1.5 million euros intended for a project that will directly involve cinemas. During the presentation, Scamarcio explained how the film represents the culmination of a long visceral journey linked to his roots: "I am Apulian, raised in Andria at the foot of Castel del Monte, and for me clearly Frederick II is a mythological figure that I heard about as a child", said the actor. "Going mushroom picking with my father at the foot of this castle was inevitably a reference for me. This is a project that Francesco Lopez and I set up; we worked hard on it, more or less ten years, and we finally managed to do it." Scamarcio then underlined the crucial role of local institutions, praising the work of president Romaniello: "Margherita, we love your militancy and your professionalism. You have a very clear idea of what is needed to stimulate a positive cultural process that is good for society and also for the economy."
Herbert Ballerina on Stefano De Martino: "Talent without defects"
"I'm very happy because it's my first time in Venice. They made me sweat a little because I've been doing this job for 20 years, but I'm very happy, especially to have received an award for Classy Dinner, which I think is an excellent film", said Herbert Ballerina, at the Lido to receive the Filming Italy Venice Award during the 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival.
The actor, at the beach with a personally curated look like a "failed stylist", is preparing for his long-awaited return to TV alongside Stefano De Martino with the new edition of Affari Tuoi: "The nice thing about this program is that, being daily, you can change it little by little. The structure remains the same, but this year there is Tommasino in place of Gennarino and there is the "counter package2: a package entirely inspired by me where I will do different performances every evening". A partnership, the one with De Martino, born with Bar Stella and which continues at full speed: "Stefano gave me a second youth. First of all he is a gentleman, and when you are a gentleman everyone competes to do their best for you. And then he has an incredible talent at just 36 years old, a good host usually becomes one after 50". When asked about a possible flaw of the Campanian host who is somewhere between serious and amused: "Everyone asks me that but he doesn't have it. Shy with women? In reality he is a shy guy", he joked. An inevitable joke about the next De Martino Sanremo Festival: "Everyone asks me about Sanremo, but I don't know if I want to go. After the episode one goes to dinner, I want to go more for that stuff. But if I were to end up on stage, yes, that's fine
