23-year-old motorcyclist dies after being trapped in a storm drain in BH; VIDEO

According to initial information, João Lucas had one of his legs stuck in the structure. Residents tried to help him, but the force of the flood prevented rescue, and he died at the scene.

In the video above, it is possible to see Fire Department personnel at the scene after removing the body. The images show that the street was still covered by a large volume of water.

The death was the first to be reported by the Civil Defense of Belo Horizonte in the current rainy season, which began in October. Two other deaths that may be related to the rains are being investigated in the state: that of a motorcyclist who died of electrocution in BH and that of a man who was swept away by the flood while trying to unblock a manhole in Guarará, in Zona da Mata.

The storm hit different regions of the city and recorded hail. Throughout the night and early morning, Civil Defense sent nine alerts to cell phones of residents of the capital.

In the messages, the agency advised the population to avoid areas subject to flooding, not to cross flooded streets and not to take shelter under trees during storms.
