Munich prevails in the race for the Olympic bid

In the duel for the German candidate for an Olympic bid, Munich clearly prevailed against Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr with 91:50 votes. The German Olympic Sports Confederation in Baden-Baden announced the concrete result of the secret vote at a press conference after the decision.

Munich went into the duel as favorites. Recently, however, there were many signs that Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr would catch up and thus a close race. But that didn't happen. Munich won clearly.

A four-way fight turned into a duel

The 42 leading Olympic associations, each with three votes, as well as the personal members and the presidium members of the DOSB were entitled to vote in the vote in the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden. A total of 141 votes were cast.

Munich and Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr were the only remaining candidates in the national elimination. Hamburg's project had already failed in a referendum in the Hanseatic city at the end of May. Berlin withdrew its application two days before the DOSB decision after the Olympic supporters in the Red City Hall were voted out in the House of Representatives election on Sunday.
