Naomi Watts will receive the Donostia Award at the San Sebastián Film Festival

Naomi Watts will receive a Donostia Award from the San Sebastián Film Festival in recognition of her entire career. The British-born actress, nominated twice for the Oscars, will collect the honorary award at a gala on September 19 after which the latest film she has starred in, The Housewife, directed by Canadian Ben Shirinian, will be screened.

Born in 1968, Naomi Watts is one of the most talented actresses of her generation. She spent her adolescence in Australia, where she began her professional career as a model and actress in television series such as Home and Away (1991). Shortly after, he decided to move to Los Angeles to look for work in Hollywood, where he had to deal with a multitude of unsuccessful auditions and menial jobs until the lead role in Mulholland Drive (2001) changed his life.

What was going to be David Lynch's new great series after Twin Peaks almost didn't see the light of day. But once the filmmaker was able to rework the project and turn it into a feature film, its presentation at the Cannes Festival revealed to the entire world what a prodigious actress Naomi Watts was, forever associated with this cult work fixed on the lists of the best films of the 21st century.

Naomi Watts has been nominated for an Oscar twice as best leading actress: for 21 Grams (2003), by Alejandro González Iñárritu; and for The Impossible (2012), by the Spanish J. A. Bayona. Both roles were also his first nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards), for which he would opt again for St. Vincent (2014), and where he obtained recognition as part of the cast of Birdman (2014), his second collaboration with Iñárritu.
