Naples records a boom in tourists for the preliminary America's Cup regattas

There is America's Cup fever in Naples.

The preliminary regattas recorded arrivals in the city with historic peaks never seen before. With the still partial numbers relating to the great sailing event and those recorded during the San Gennaro weekend with 645,000 visitors, the month of September will close above the 2,200,000 tourists expected by the Urban Tourist Observatory.

"In the days just before the preliminary regattas, 22-23-24 September - announced the Tourism Councilor of the Municipality of Naples Teresa Armato - 770,000 visitors arrived from Italy and abroad and the data is still partial, the definitive one will be communicated in the middle of next week.

According to the Observatory's estimates, of this overall figure, around half a million tourists arrived in Naples to watch the races. The hotels were sold out."

"The perception of this boom - underlines the representative of the Manfredi Council - was clear since the announcement of the America's Cup in Naples and we have worked hard, also with the Metropolitan City, to offer our citizens and tourists a truly unique experience: we have set up platforms on the cliffs, which we will undertake to bring back in the summer; we have offered the possibility of a boat tour, which on the days of the races has become a view point to watch the races from the sea, and giant screens on the lawns".

"Following the mayor's wish that the event should not remain confined to the city centre, we have organized many collateral events - Armato specifies -, like the one last night with music, art and entertainment at the Casina Vanvitelliana and the Baia castle. There is enthusiasm and the involvement of the whole city: hundreds of people are watching the races also from the panoramic points, from via Orazio, Monte Echia, Terrazza di Sant'Antonio. The spectacle that can be seen from these points - he confesses - is truly extraordinary."
