World sports medicine renews its trust in Fabio Pigozzi. The professor was re-elected president of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) during the 39th World Congress taking place in Santiago, Chile, confirming Italy's leading role in the international governance of sports medicine. The confirmation at the helm of FIMS comes alongside the role that Professor Pigozzi holds as President of NADO Italia, further strengthening the Italian contribution in the main international bodies involved in promoting the health and integrity of sport.
Pigozzi: “Honored for the trust”
“I am particularly honored by the trust that the national Federations and the international scientific community have wanted to renew in me,” declared Professor Pigozzi. "It is not just a matter of personal recognition. Being able to continue to lead the FIMS means seeing the prestige and credibility of Italian Sports Medicine confirmed in the world. The Federation will continue to invest in the education and training of new generations of sports doctors and professionals, in the protection of clean athletes and in the promotion of scientific research as the foundation of decisions in the health and sports fields. In a constantly evolving international context, our objective will be to strengthen the role of sports medicine in protecting the health of athletes and in the diffusion of physical activity as a prevention and well-being tool for everyone."
Career
Former rector of the University of Rome Foro Italico, Professor Pigozzi is a member of the IOC Health, Medicine and Science Commission of the International Olympic Committee and a member of the Health, Medical and Research Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Founded in 1928 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1952, the International Federation of Sports Medicine today represents the main global organization in the sector, bringing together over 120 national associations and promoting research, training and scientific cooperation activities on the five continents. The Santiago Congress once again highlighted the contribution of the Italian school of sports medicine to the scientific and cultural development of the sector, confirming the leading role that Italy continues to play in the international panorama of sports medicine. Under the presidency of Professor Pigozzi, FIMS has consolidated its role as a privileged interlocutor of the main international sports and health institutions, strengthening collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and numerous organizations involved in protecting the health of athletes and promoting the integrity of sport.
Casasco confirmed member of the FIMS Executive Committee
The international relevance of the Federation is also confirmed by the composition of its Executive Committee, which includes representatives of some of the most authoritative global sport institutions. Among these is Prof. Olivier Rabin, member of the FIMS Executive committee and Senior director for Science and Medicine of the World anti-doping agency (WADA), testifying to the close collaborative relationship between the Federation and the main international bodies involved in protecting athletes' health and sporting integrity. The Congress also confirmed the significant Italian presence in the governing bodies of the Federation. Maurizio Casasco, president of the Italian Sports Medicine Federation (FMSI), was confirmed as a member of the FIMS Executive committee as chairman of the Development commission, a role through which he will continue to promote the development and diffusion programs of sports medicine at an international level. "I am very proud of this result - declared Casasco - And above all I want to congratulate Prof. Pigozzi, to whom I have a deep friendship, because with his work he has been able to transform the FIMS (120 member countries around the world) into an increasingly accredited organization on an international level. And it is an important recognition for Italian Sports Medicine.
