[Sports Center/Comprehensive Report] Warriors veteran Kristaps Porzingis just renewed his contract with the team during the summer vacation. However, he missed the season due to illness again before the start of the season. Now Porzingis himself has announced that he will temporarily leave basketball and hopes to discuss a solution with the Warriors team.
The Warriors signed a two-year, $40 million contract with Porzingis this summer. Since Porzingis left the team due to illness, the Warriors believed that he had not fulfilled his contract obligations and reported that they did not plan to pay him the $20 million of this year's contract. For this reason, Porzingis posted on social media earlier, saying that at this stage, he puts his health first and wants to leave his favorite basketball first.
Porzingis also said that he hopes to express the highest respect for the Warriors and work with the team to find a reasonable solution.
"ESPN" reported that Porzingis's announcement does not mean his official retirement. Although the Warriors have suspended salary payments, they have not officially voided Porzingis' contract. The players union and Porzingis have no objections to this. The team currently hopes to find a trading plan to solve the problem after the trading market opens.
