The film is set 30 years after a nuclear apocalypse. The plot follows a survivor who must choose between compassion and the safety of his shelter.
Nicolas Cage will play one of the last survivors of a nuclear apocalypse and fight against a horde of ferocious cannibals in the new action thriller film Parish.
As the official synopsis states, the film, set 30 years after the nuclear apocalypse, will see the actor in the role of "a life-hardened survivor, who has managed to stay alive with his highly trained attack dogs by following an inviolable rule: never let anyone through the gate. This rule has kept him alive for three decades. But when a desperate woman with a newborn in her arms appears outside his refuge, Parish is forced to choose between compassion and survival. His decision exposes the refuge he has spent years building and puts him in the crosshairs of a gang of ruthless cannibals approaching from the wasteland. With his super-equipped compound under siege and his past finally catching up with him, Parish is forced into a brutal fight to protect everything he has left.”
Writer and director Adam Sigal (former writer and director of Simon Pegg's 2023 comedy thriller Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose, as well as producer of the 2024 science fiction film Slingshot) will sign the project, which is expected to begin filming in Minnesota in October. Joel Shapiro of MagiCity Studios (Gunner and Killerman) will produce the film alongside Steven Tyler Sahlein (The Devil's Advocate). Mark Holder and Christine Holder will produce for Wonder Street, while Matthew Shreder's Concourse Media will executive produce and finance the project alongside Archetype Media Finance. The director of photography will be veteran David Tattersall (Star Wars: Episodes I, II and III, The Green Mile, Tomb Raider and Air and Next, the latter two both with Nicolas Cage).
“Parish has a scale and prestige that immediately sets it apart from the crowd, with all the makings of a true cinematic event,” said Matthew Shreder, CEO of Concourse Media. "Nic Cage is an incredible and fearless actor, with an extraordinary group of filmmakers at his side, all committed to making a sophisticated survival thriller, a cinematic event designed for a global audience."
Producer Joel Shapiro added: “Adam created a world that was wild, cinematic and incredibly visceral, but what attracted us to Parish was the humanity beneath. Nick Cage brings an unpredictability and emotional intensity that makes him perfect for this character. And building this world alongside artists like David Tattersall is incredibly exciting. We're approaching this project as a cinematic experience from the ground up.”
Born in 1964 in California, Nicolas Cage is the son of August Coppola, the brother of the famous director Francis Ford Coppola. To avoid suspicions of possible favoritism towards him, the actor changed his surname at the beginning of his career. In the 1980s he made his film debut, but his turning point came with the film Leaving Las Vegas (1995), for which he won the Oscar for Best Actor. He has appeared in over one hundred films, including Face/Off (1997), The Family Man (2000), Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001), National Treasure (2004) and the more recent Pig (2021), The Talented Mr. C (2022), Renfield (2023) and Longlegs (2024). He recently starred in the film Madden and the live-action TV series Spider-Noir.
