Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary special edition model and its accompanying accessories, specially prepared for the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. This special console and its accompanying accessories will be released on October 29, 2026.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will be released a week later, on November 5, 2026, only for Nintendo Switch 2. The pre-order period for special edition hardware has officially begun in some regions around the world.
Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition draws attention with the Triforce motifs specific to the Zelda series on the back of the console, the dock and the Joy-Con 2 controllers. Green, black and gold tones are mainly preferred in the design.
The special design is not limited to just the console, and the Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and carrying case are also on sale on the same day. The console package includes a specially designed Nintendo Switch 2, Joy-Con 2 (L/R), Joy-Con 2 wrist straps and a dock unit.
The box also includes Joy-Con 2 Grip, Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter, USB-C charging cable and Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time game is not included in this package and must be purchased separately.
The recommended sales price of the special Nintendo Switch 2 model in Japan was determined as 62,980 yen, including taxes. The Zelda 40th Anniversary specially designed Pro Controller, which comes with a display stand, carries a price tag of 12,980 yen, while the carrying case that comes with a screen protector carries a price tag of 3,980 yen.
Australia was one of the first regions where the pre-order process started. The Zelda 40th Anniversary special edition Switch 2 is priced at AU$799.95, with the matching Pro Controller priced at AU$149.95.
The physical version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is also available for pre-order in the same region for AU$109.95. Nintendo Store pages in the US and UK are also available for consoles, controllers and games.
In the USA, the digital version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is priced at $59.99 and the physical version is priced at $69.99. The first production batch of the physical release will use special packaging with a textured foil cover design.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, released for Nintendo 64 in 1998, returns with newly created visuals in the Switch 2 version. While textures and environmental details are renewed, loading times are shortened, performance is improved and sounds are rearranged.
The music of the game is presented to the players with symphonic orchestra recordings. While cutscenes are fully voiced, character dialogues are also expanded.
The renewed control system allows Link to jump and run with separate button commands. Free camera control can be used via the right analog stick.
The camera can be moved freely in the newly modeled areas, and the day-night cycle continues uninterrupted throughout the game world, including the towns. The new Threads of Time system allows the player to check their story progress and next mission during gameplay.
Switch 2's internal microphone is also used for Ocarina use. When the melodies Link learns are hummed near the console, the character can play these melodies with his in-game ocarina.
Ocarina of Time will also have support for ZELDA NOTES in the Nintendo Switch app. The Today's Record section records daily progress and statistics such as the number of enemies defeated.
The Play Ocarina feature allows playing a virtual ocarina via the touch screen and creating melodies that can be shared via QR code. There are more than 2,000 questions in total in the Ocarina of Time Quiz section.
New amiibo figures for Young Link and Young Zelda will also be available in 2027. When used in Ocarina of Time, these figures will unlock special in-game masks that use the retro graphic style.
