Nvidia proposes 4 directions for cooperation to develop the AI ecosystem in Vietnam

Nvidia representatives proposed cooperation directions on building large language models, AI infrastructure and GPU capacity, developing human resources and bringing Vietnam's AI ecosystem to the world.

On August 20, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan had a working session with Vice President and ASEAN Regional Director of Nvidia Vikram Rao.

A representative of the chip design firm assessed that Vietnam has made a lot of progress in building an AI ecosystem. The company has cooperated with some large Vietnamese technology companies such as Viettel and FPT. Nvidia continues to propose four directions for future cooperation.

First, Nvidia proposed to coordinate with Vietnam to build a large language model (LLM) owned by Vietnam, suitable for data, language and domestic needs based on open source models and tools that Nvidia developed.

Second, the two sides discussed the development of AI infrastructure and GPU capacity. Vietnam currently has about 10,000-15,000 GPUs, while some countries like South Korea have 50,000-60,000 and are planning to expand to 200,000-250,000 GPUs in the next 5 years. Nvidia proposed that Vietnam develop a plan to develop AI computing capacity on a national scale, serving state agencies, businesses, universities and research and development activities.

Third, the chip design company proposes to expand its training programs in Vietnam, aiming to deploy on a national scale and integrate deeper into the training program. The two sides also discussed supporting scientists, graduate students and students to participate in Nvidia's AI ecosystem.

Finally, Nvidia proposes to connect Vietnam's AI ecosystem with the global ecosystem, bringing Vietnam's AI products, businesses and capabilities deeper into the ASEAN market, then expanding to the international market.

Minister Vu Hai Quan assessed that Nvidia's four proposed directions are consistent with Vietnam's strategy and orientation for developing science, technology, innovation and digital transformation. The head of the Ministry of Science and Technology requested the Ministry's focal units to coordinate with Nvidia to concretize the proposals into a common action plan, identifying goals, resources and implementation roadmap.
