This is a reaction to serious warnings from researchers from Anthropic - an artificial intelligence company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees - according to which the rapid development of this technology carries the risk of "the extinction of humanity".

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for an immediate slowdown in the development of artificial intelligence. Otherwise, he claims, "uncontrolled AI agents will cause serious damage in the coming months and even take control of a significant part of the Internet."

Today's New York Times, citing excerpts from the conversation provided by Barack Obama's office, reported that the former president encouraged House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to contribute to the public debate on artificial intelligence policy - provided that Democrats regain control of the House in the midterm elections, scheduled for November 3.

Once you take over as speaker, I would strongly urge Democrats to develop a framework for broad public debate, Obama reportedly told Jeffries, the newspaper reported.

The newspaper also added that Obama called on candidates in the 2028 presidential elections to make the issue of artificial intelligence one of the main points of their programs and to present a clear plan for solving problems related to the security and economic effects of the development of this technology.
