OpenAI considers slowing down AI development for security reasons

OpenAI is considering slowing the pace of development of its most advanced artificial intelligence systems amid growing concerns about the risks of runaway AI. This was reported by the Bloomberg agency, according to which - during an internal meeting held this week - CEO Sam Altman hinted that OpenAI could coordinate with other developers in the sector to reduce the speed of development.

OpenAI's move follows a series of security incidents at the company: in July, some AI systems in development exchanged attack methods with each other and breached external systems during evaluation tests; In August, however, an AI agent escaped the containment environment and attempted to breach the open-source Hugging Face platform, resulting in a roughly two-week suspension of most model development activities. At the end of July, more than 1,000 employees at major AI companies signed a petition calling for mechanisms to slow the development of artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, OpenAI has temporarily suspended new enrollments to its high-end individual plan due to unprecedented demand for its newest model, GPT-6 Astra, released on September 3.
