NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) legal team head Ratna Singh claimed she was being detained by police along with three other lawyers ahead of the party’s proposed October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Singh alleged that more than 25 police personnel had surrounded the car she was sitting in without disclosing the grounds for her detention.

In a statement, Singh said police personnel had arrived at her residence in the morning and failed to produce an official notification when asked. She alleged that officers were insisting she remain at home with them, while she refused to get out of the car.

"They came to my house in the morning. We asked for official notification. They have nothing. They are saying that they want to detain me. We have received orders from above. I don't know which orders they have received from above," Singh said.

She further alleged that police personnel were neither taking her away nor allowing her to leave the spot.

"And I am not getting out of the car. They are not leaving this space. So I am in a way illegally detained. They are like 25 plus people," she said.

Ratna Singh’s detention follows Dhruv Rathee’s pickup

The development comes hours after YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was detained from his residence in Gurugram ahead of the CJP’s planned protest in Delhi.

The detention came amid heightened security arrangements across the national capital and police efforts to prevent protesters from gathering at Jantar Mantar.

The CJP has called for a mobilisation on October 10 demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s removal over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Delhi Police has denied permission for the proposed demonstration, citing concerns over public order, traffic management and public safety.
