Özgür Özel's reaction to the privatization of bridges and highways in Edirne

NEW Party Chairman Özgür Özel addressed the citizens in Edirne, where he came to make a series of visits and contacts.

On Özel's agenda was the decision to privatize bridges and highways, including the 15 July Martyrs Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, with the signature of AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Özel said the following about this decision:

"I told this months ago, they remained silent. They did not deny it, we suspected it. Then it turned out that foreigners came and inspected the bridges and made measurements and calculations on the highways. They remained silent. They did not answer a word. 'Answer, will you do this?' I said and they fell silent. Erdoğan signed the agreement quietly last night."

Drawing attention to the losses that will be reflected on the public if privatizations are realized, Özel said, "All the cheap highways will become five times more expensive, the first and second bridges in Istanbul will become at least twice as expensive. They are killing the hen that lays golden eggs."

Özel continued as follows:

"My word to Erdoğan is this: You need money to win elections, you are helpless. I see it. I say it to those who will participate in this tender and those who will buy this place with 5 years' worth of today's money for 25 years of income, but with almost 1.5 and 2 years' worth of money after the increase. We will come next year, we will come to power. We will nationalize all the highways."

NEW Party Chairman emphasized, "Of course, we have laid a lot of foundations, we will do so. We will do everything the nation needs under the NEW Party government. But we will demolish one thing. We will demolish all the toll booths on those highways."
